Leadership Development

It is essential that staff have role models to look up to and that organisations confront the challenges involved in establishing leadership that reflects the diversity of the organisation and the community that it serves. Astar’s Leadership Development Programmes focus on:

  • Leadership competencies
  • Personal development
  • Mentoring and coaching
  • Career planning and development
  • Encouragement to pursue further self development opportunities, i.e. secondment, shadowing, training courses and voluntary projects

By developing staff’s leadership potential, organisations can ensure that a diverse pool of people, including those from under-represented groups, are encouraged to seek out development opportunities and progress into leadership roles.

Supporting Mentors & Mentees

Mentoring relationships should effectively support career progression and learning, as well as promote diversity and equality, to enrich the services of your organisation.

Astar delivers training programmes that enhance the specific skills and general behaviours that both mentors and mentees require to work together effectively. Our programmes include:

  • The roles of the mentor and mentee
  • The mentoring contract
  • Building and managing the mentoring relationship – benefits and challenges

Successful mentoring partnerships bring together sources of potential and sources of experience within your organisation, giving members of staff the opportunity to maximise their potential, development new skills, improve their performance and gain a better understanding of others’ needs and requirements.

Psychometric & Personality Tools

Psychometric and personality tools can be used to objectively consider and recognise individual ways of working. Identifying personal strengths and weaknesses can assist individuals and organisations in assessing development needs, career planning and in building effective teams and working relationships.

Astar can incorporate the use of psychometric and personality tools into our Coaching, Leadership Development and Personal & Team Effectiveness Programmes. These include:

  • Myers Briggs Type Indicator: used to identify preferred ways of thinking and behaving to help individuals understand how they make decisions
  • 16PF & 15FQ: both used to create a personality profile to identify individual strengths as well as group dynamics
  • Repertory Grid: a system based on an individual’s own values – or ‘constructs’ – and enables people to be understood and developed within their own specific terms

Astar’s coaches are qualified in the use of psychometric tools and have British Psychological Society membership and adhere to the BPS Code of Ethics and Conduct.
